KSI is Hiring a Controller Near CEDAR RAPIDS, IA

Our client is a Shared Service Company that provides a variety of support to a family of manufacturing and construction companies around strategy and solutions.

They are currently seeking a Controller to join their finance team in Cedar Rapids, IA. This position will report to the CFO and requires a proactive, team-oriented leader who can thrive in a fast-paced growing organization. The ideal candidate will have experience managing financial and accounting functions for multiple companies simultaneously.

The Controller will have broad responsibility across corporate and operational financial and accounting functions. This is a hands-on leadership role that requires someone who is able to support both high-level complex accounting and finance responsibilities as well as not being afraid to dive into the details on a day-to-day basis.

This is a hands-on position that requires transaction processing, account reconciliation and financial reporting skills. Duties include:

  • Responsible for accurate general ledger accounting including month-end close, account reconciliations, and analyses
  • Assist in developing team members, leading the financial integration of new acquisitions, and working closely with various business units to provide required financial information and analysis that support the growth of business
  • Maintain and develop an internal control structure that ensures the integrity of information maintained in all financial areas
  • Report on the financial results of operational activities to senior leadership
  • Provides monthly financial support to the family of companies by compiling monthly financial reports and processing and posting all accounting activity, including month-end journal entries/accruals; assure all expenses are recorded in the month incurred; distributes departmental performance reports; analyze spending variances
  • Ensures that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) or international financial reporting standards.
  • Maintains knowledge of organizational procedures, federal and state regulations, and accounting standards.
  • Provides business analysis with particular emphasis in understanding the supported business
  • Be a proactive leader in seeking to improve the accuracy and efficiency of the organizations' procedures, compliance activities and systems
  • Streamline inefficiencies within the organization; develop systems and processes that minimize the number of resources to complete tasks, while maintaining the strongest level of internal controls
  • Provide training in the areas of accounts payable, accounts receivable, monthly reconciliations, journal entries, etc.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree required; Accounting or Finance preferred; CPA desirable
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in accounting and/or planning in manufacturing or construction required
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are a must (proactively communicates status, issues, conflicts, and priorities up, down and across the engagement team)
  • Ability to balance multiple responsibilities simultaneously plus excellent analytical and decision making skills
  • Experience in a public accounting firm, consulting firm or other professional services environment is preferred but not required
  • Knowing analysis/data working tools such as Power BI, Power Query, etc. preferred
  • Proficiency utilizing Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Strong organizational skills along with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to adapt to change effectively
  • Must be willing to travel to company locations within the Midwest region as needed
